With the Spokane area’s high precipitation level, residents in Port Falls are sure to encounter a few types of pests. The healthy vegetation attracts insects and pests that feed on it. Rodents
Rats and mice find their way into homes or businesses. Full-grown mice can squeeze through an opening as small as a quarter, and rats can squeeze through slightly larger openings. Since they are fast and elusive, you may only see them if you look closely.
Check your mattress, furniture, and carpet for reddish-brown dirt, small blood smears or shed exoskeletons. There may also be a distinct musty smell. One common sign of an infestation is bites on your skin. The itchy red bumps are usually in a neat row. Since bed bugs can live over a month without blood and are good at hiding, they are resilient. These pests breed quickly and should be removed immediately.
Ants
Carpenter ants are one of the most destructive pests in the area. They make their colonies in trees, garages, and eaves along your home. These ants can destroy large portions of wood in a short amount of time. They feed on anything from aphids to rotting meat. Argentine ants may also be found in the area. Although they are not known to bite or be a major problem in your home, they will attack and destroy beneficial ant colonies that are helpful to your yard’s ecology. Fire ants can sting you and cause severe pain. Some people have allergic reactions to their stings and require medical care. Other types of ants can rob your peace of mind and your food supply.
